Rep. Ilhan Omar Statement on Winning Primary 

MINNEAPOLIS—Rep. Ilhan Omar released the following statement after her decisive victory in her primary election. She won by over thirteen percentage points.

“Tonight, the voters of the Fifth District showed that the movement we have built is strong, that the work we have done on behalf of our constituents is resonating, and that voters passionately believe in keeping my voice in the People’s House. It has truly been the honor of my life to represent the Fifth District. Thank you to the voters who placed their trust in me to serve another term in Congress.

“Together, we fed 30 million kids during the pandemic. We started a movement that has canceled student debt for 5 million borrowers. We helped make universal school meals mainstream. We passed the most ambitious climate bill in history. We shifted the national conversation on so many issues – from calling out the horrific genocide in Gaza, to holding the fossil fuel industry responsible for polluting our planet, to tackling the housing affordability crisis.

“We’ve helped thousands of constituents with issues big and small. We hosted over a hundred town halls and roundtables – far more than most members of Congress. We brought home $54 million for projects that are going to change the lives of thousands for generations to come.

“Tonight’s victory is a testament to how much our district believes in the collective values we are fighting for in Washington. This win is for them and everyone who still believes that the Fifth District can lead the fight for a more peaceful, sustainable, and joyful world.

“I am committed to doing everything possible to unite the Fifth District to win big in November and ensure Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are elected the next President and Vice President of the United States.”
