Finance Assistant

Overview

Ilhan for Congress is hiring a part-time Finance Assistant to support the Finance Director with in-district and national fundraising efforts for the 2025-2026 cycle. The Finance Assistant will work under the Finance Director to implement the campaign’s fundraising program in order to build long-term programmatic infrastructure, increase the campaign war-chest, and nurture relationships within the donor community.

Compensation: $2,000/month. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis. 

Terms of Employment: This is a temporary, part-time position starting ASAP extending through the 2025-2026 cycle concluding on December 31, 2026. 

Job Title: Finance Assistant

Position Summary: The Finance Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the campaign. This individual will assist in managing contributions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about progressive politics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribution Management:
    • Process and record incoming contributions using the campaign’s database.
    • Ensure proper coding and documentation for all contributions.
    • Monitor compliance with contribution limits and other legal requirements.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Assist the Finance Director and Compliance Team in preparing and submitting financial disclosures to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) or other relevant bodies.
    • Maintain accurate records of expenditures and donations for audit and reporting purposes.
    • Support the development of internal finance policies and procedures.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Generate reports on fundraising performance and donor trends.
    • Provide insights to the finance and fundraising teams to optimize efforts.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and other campaign staff to process payments and reimbursements.
    • Organize and maintain financial documents and files.
    • Assist with donor outreach and communication as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, political science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Previous experience in campaign finance, political fundraising, or accounting preferred.
  • Familiarity with FEC regulations and campaign finance laws is a plus.
  • Proficiency in database management and financial software (e.g., NGP VAN, ActBlue, Excel).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the campaign’s mission and values.
  • Ability to work remotely with access to the internet, and work long or irregular hours.
