Rep. Ilhan Omar Announces New Slate of Endorsements

Posted by: Rep. Ilhan Omar | March 22, 2024

MINNEAPOLIS—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced dozens of endorsements from national and local elected officials and organizations working to advance labor protections, peace and human rights, climate action, gender equity, and more. She previously announced the endorsement of every leader of the U.S. House Democratic Caucus in August 2023, as well as dozens of state and local elected officials in February 2024.

“During my time in Congress, I have been driven by the idea of co-governance,” Rep. Omar said. “Every progressive victory was achieved not by individuals, but by movements working together to build the society we want to live in. The organizations and elected leaders who have endorsed me are partners in this work every step of the way. Pushing for climate action driven by good-paying union jobs in our transition to a green economy. Funding quality public schools and feeding kids while they’re there. Demanding a foreign policy that centers human rights and peace. Protecting reproductive autonomy and LGBTQ community members. These leaders and organizations are some of the most effective around, and I am honored to receive their endorsements.”

“Reproductive rights are under attack all over the country—not just the right to an abortion, but also IVF and birth control,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “After the overturn of Roe v. Wade, it is important that our elected officials are trustworthy and reliable supporters of reproductive freedom. Congresswoman Omar has proven that she will fight for and protect reproductive rights, and that’s why Planned Parenthood Action Fund trusts her to represent Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.“

“Rep. Omar always stands with working Minnesotans and our unions,” Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham said. “As a former union member and organizer who knows what it’s like to walk a picket line, Ilhan understands that workers are the ones that make our economy work. No matter what comes her way, she has always had our backs. She will never stop working to level the playing field in our state and country, and we are proud to endorse her for re-election.”

“We are proud to endorse Representative Ilhan Omar for reelection in 2024,” said Margaret Levin, State Director for the Sierra Club North Star Chapter. “Congresswoman Omar continues to be a courageous champion for climate justice, zero waste policies, and a just transition to 100% clean energy and a more equitable, sustainable economy. The Sierra Club applauds Representative Omar’s advocacy for our climate and environment in D.C. and Minnesota. We look forward to her continued leadership in Congress.”

“OutFront Minnesota Action proudly endorses Rep. Ilhan Omar for re-election!” OutFront Minnesota wrote in their announcement. “Our long working history with Rep. Omar from the very beginning in the Minnesota House has shown us that she is a 2SLGBTQIA+ ally in all things. Whether it’s protecting 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth, enshrining marriage equality, or working to end discrimination against the queer communities, Rep. Omar has earned the trust and respect of our communities.  We are thrilled to help re-elect her to office to ensure that LGBTQ+ people prosper under a truly progressive agenda that includes the Green New Deal, student debt, police reform, housing for all, affordable accessible healthcare, immigration justice, worker protections, and preventing gun violence.”
