Rep. Omar Wins DFL Primary Election
MINNEAPOLIS – Congresswoman Ilhan Omar released the following statement after resoundingly winning her primary, with over 80% of the vote.
“I am honored that the people of Minnesota’s Fifth District have trusted me to continue to be their voice in Congress.
“Across the district and across the country, people are making their voices heard: we want to vote for something. We are tired of being told that it’s not possible to achieve things that would fundamentally make our lives better. Instead, we are ready to work to make them a reality. We are ready for Medicare for All, universal school meals, an end to forever wars, rent we can afford, an end to corporate greed and billionaires buying elections, a livable planet, reproductive freedom, and abolishing ICE. These goals are achievable if we are willing to fight for them.
“Our district has shown the country what it means to be Minnesotan: we look out for our neighbors, stand up for our rights, and show up when it matters most. When ICE targeted our communities, Minnesotans stepped up and organized to protect one another. That is the Minnesota I know. And that is why it is the honor of my life to fight for you every single day in Congress. I will always carry your hopes and dreams to the People’s House. Together, we will continue to be a check on this callous administration and meet this moment with the clarity, compassion, and impact that it requires. We will keep speaking clearly about the horrors Trump’s fascist regime inflicted on our communities. We will speak out to ensure the world remembers our neighbors Alex Pretti and Renée Good. We will fight for commonsense gun reforms and always remember the two beautiful angels murdered at Annunciation School. Minnesotans will always have a seat at the table in the People’s House in every room I’m in, because I will ensure our collective voices are heard.
