With the DFL trifecta, I was proud to pass a bill to ensure 100% clean electricity by 2040. This work wouldn’t be possible without incredible partners on the federal level like Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to bring the transformative change our communities desperately need. Two years ago, the Inflation Reduction Act was passed into law, the largest climate bill ever passed that brought $370 billion in grants and over a trillion dollars in tax credits for renewable energy projects, electric vehicles, home electrification, and so much more.
I am proud that Congresswoman Omar played a key role with the Congressional Progressive Caucus in shaping this bill and passing it. It is difficult to pass legislation in Congress, let alone the largest climate investment bill in world history. Its success should serve as a reminder of the importance of leading with vision and values — of not giving up when it’s hard or there aren’t the votes yet. Congresswoman Omar stayed the course, and the entire world will be better off for it. In 20 years, our children will look back on this time and see that we finally started to take the climate crisis seriously.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and I trust that Congresswoman Omar is the best person to ensure that the Fifth District makes the most of the opportunities in the Inflation Reduction Act. I urge you to vote for Congresswoman Omar in the DFL primary on August 13.
