Rep. Ilhan Omar Releases Statement Condemning Opponent for Courting Republican Voters and AIPAC Support
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Today, the Intercept released an investigative report detailing our opponent’s attempt to court Republicans and convince AIPAC to make a significant investment in the MN05 Primary Election, possibly in violation of FEC laws.
The Intercept reported on August 11 that, “The members of the group — which included a consultant who at the time was working for the Samuels campaign as well as far-flung political donors — discussed raising six-figure sums for a political action committee, strategies for campaign phone banks, and an effort to marshal Republican voters to boost Samuels in Tuesday’s open primary.” They also reported on the group discussing their preference for “alt right Christian Neo Nazis.”
“It is shameful that my opponent’s campaign has actively courted Republicans to vote for him in the primary, along with seeking funding from AIPAC – which is deeply unpopular with voters in the Fifth District,” said Congresswoman Omar. “Relying on the support of MAGA Republicans is antithetical to the values of our district and reeks of desperation from a campaign out of step with the people of the Fifth District. The Fifth deserves someone who will champion their values, not seek support from MAGA Republicans like Laura Loomer and Royce White.”
