Sen. Omar Fateh Endorses Ilhan Omar for Re-election
MINNEAPOLIS—Today, State Senator Omar Fateh (SD 62) wrote a letter to the editor published in Insight News in which he endorsed Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for re-election. Senator Fateh touted the Congresswoman’s advocacy of Labor unions and workers, reaffirming her as the Labor Candidate in the primary for the Fifth District.
In his letter, Fateh wrote,
“Labor unions continue to be the driving force for positive change for workers. I take pride in having Congresswoman Ilhan Omar represent us in Washington because I’ve seen her time and time again stand with labor.
Whether it is standing on the picket lines with teachers or nurses, Ilhan has always had the backs of workers. In Washington, she has co-sponsored the Raise the Wage Act to enact a $15 federal minimum wage, co-sponsored the PRO Act to hold employers accountable for violating workers’ rights, or championed the Family and Medical Leave Act—she fights for us every day.
We can’t afford to lose her voice or her advocacy. Her opponent poses an existential threat to the labor movement. Whether it’s undercutting teacher’s unions through pushing for more private charter schools or being funded by right-wing donors with long histories of being anti-labor, Don Samuels would be catastrophic for workers.
I support Congresswoman Ilhan Omar because she is the right person for the job. She knows what it takes to win big for workers across the Fifth Congressional District which is why she is endorsed by the majority of labor unions. I hear from so many constituents whose lives have been materially improved because Ilhan had their back in Washington. I am glad to have her back.”
